Speaking of challenges, the few previous weeks we have been working on the eikonal model in order to reproduce reentry.
Reentry is an abnormal electrical wave that is looping back upon itself, it is responsible for the majority of arrhythmias. Included among these arrhythmias are atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter and atrioventricular nodal reentry.
This can be, perfectly, reproduced with the reaction-diffusion models : The bidomain and monodomain models are widely used in electro cardiology; they define the electrical activity of the heart but unfortunately are computationally very expensive which is not adequate for clinical use.
