29th October- Citizen Outreach Event

You are invited to “Improving treatments for Atrial Fibrillation, a challenge for the welfare system” online webinar

Have you ever wondered how Atrial Fibrillation affects patients? Or how AF research is evolving through the latest innovations in devices for the diagnosis and treatment of AF?

If you have, you can’t miss the first online webinar focused on the patient’s point of view, involving patient associations to learn about the problem from the inside, their concerns and points of view, in order to get the big picture of AF. Mark 29th of October 2020, 15.00 at your calendar!

This webinar is organized by AF researchers and will involve researchers, industry and patient associations to discuss AF, a pathology suffered by more than 6 million people in Europe and that doubles the risk of mortality in citizens.

Among the objectives of this online webinar are the discussion of ablation as a treatment and its previous diagnosis through stratification, or the presentation of different innovative projects that aim to improve its paradigm. In addition, it is an excellent opportunity to establish networking among people involved in AF, from patients to researchers, clinicians….

All this within an event that will last 1 hour and a half, and will include the participation of, Atrial Fibrillation Association (https://www.heartrhythmalliance.org/) a UK registered charity which focuses on raising awareness of atrial fibrillation (AF) by providing information and support materials for patients and medical professionals involved in detecting, diagnosing and managing atrial fibrillation. Its CEO, Trudie Lobban, will participate in the roundtable of the event, together with researchers in AF, led by María Guillem (PersonalizeAF coordinator) and Daniel Engler (member of AFFECT-EU) and Felipe Atienza, clinical researcher in AF in the AFFINE project.

In addition, the following projects will be presented at this event:
PersonalizeAF Project (https://personalizeaf.net/), that addresses AF challenge by delivering an innovative multinational, multi-sectorial, and multidisciplinary research and training programme in new technologies and novel strategies for individualized characterization of AF substrate to and increase treatments’ efficiency. From the research point of view, PersonalizeAF wants to integrate data and knowledge from in-vitro, in silico, ex vivo and in vivo animal and human models to: 1) generate an individual description of the state of the atrial muscle identifying the disease mechanisms and characteristics; 2) understanding the potential effect that different therapies have on different atrial substrates; and 3) combining this information to generate a specific profile of the patient and the best therapy for each patient.

AFFINE Project (https://eithealth.eu/project/7884/): AF-FINEis a medical device solution that will combine a non-invasive electrocardiogram imaging technology with an artificial intelligence prediction system to enhance treatment of patients with atrial fibrillation, a chronic condition that can lead to stroke or heart failure. Atrial fibrillation is a chronic disease that affects more than 6 million Europeans, and can cut a person’s life expectancy in half.

AFFECT – EU Project ( http://www.affect-eu.eu/) “DIGITAL, RISK-BASED SCREENING FOR ATRIAL FIBRILLATION IN THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY” project is an EU-funded consortium including 25 partner from academia and industry. AFFECT-EU`s major goal is the development of a risk-based, accurate, and ready for implementation atrial fibrillation screening algorithm, using digital devices, for early AF detection in the community. AFFECT-EU will fill in the AF screening knowledge gaps by integrating information from independent studies entering the project.

Civil society has the power to influence behaviour and decision making by individuals, organizations and institutions involved, and that’s this webinar’s goal, bringing together such different AF stakeholders in the same event.
