Snapping out of confinement

some tunnels happen to be longer than others but there’s always a light at the end of every tunnel

Hey everyone! This is Narimane early-stage researcher number 10 from Bordeaux. This is my time of the month when I sit down, hit the pause button, and think about my failures and my achievements.

The highlights of this month are :

  • I got my first dose of the vaccine! Hopefully, we will go back to normal soon; we all know that some tunnels happen to be longer than others but there’s always a light at the end of every tunnel. 🤞
  • The weather is warmer and brighter, the restaurants and bars are open again and summer is in the air; the best reward after a long day working from home is definitely to leave the house for a while and spend time going on walks or meeting with friends. I have realised that time off is an important part of a PhD. 🌞

We recently developed an eikonal model able to simulate spiral waves that will appear in the FIMH 2021 conference but the last weeks we were kept busy working on a new version that can be more suitable for clinical use in terms of time computation..To be honest, I feel like I spent all my time debugging…

We are planning with my supervisors and co-supervisors the next thing to work on : we would like to use the eikonal model to improve solving the ECGI problem in atrial fibrillation condition. But for now I will take some time to familiarize myself with MUSIC (Multi-modality Platform for Specific Imaging in Cardiology), it is a proprietary software developed by the Liryc IHU and the Epione Inria team. The aim is to offer a large spectrum of functionalities and processing pipelines dedicated to cardiology. We will assess the accuracy of the different algorithms already implemented in MUSIC for solving EEG-inverse problems on the gold standard data.

In our future work, we aim to formulate a different inverse problem approach based on the eikonal model.

I feel like June will be a very busy month but I will try my best to stick to the schedule and meet all my deadlines.. Also, I will keep updated in my next blog post!

Speaking of tight schedules, I will share with you a great tip: EAT A FROG FIRST. The frog here symbolizes the task you least want to do. What is the one task that you despise doing each day?  Identify your frog and eat it.

“If the first thing you do in the morning is to eat the frog, then you can continue your day with the satisfaction of knowing that this is probably the worst thing that will happen to you all day”. Mark Twain
